WINE TASTING NOTE: 2012 Piper-Heidsieck Brut Champagne
Would you like to have tasting notes for your own personal tasting of this wine, either to develop your own palate or share information with friends at a dinner party? If so, click below!
I’m guessing you are no stranger to Piper-Heidsieck - if you are a lover of wine, and more specifically Champagne, Piper-Heidsieck will be a familiar name.
Piper-Heidsieck is undoubtedly one of the most famous Champagne houses around. It is, in fact, the official Champagne of the Oscars! But this is not the reason people love this Champagne - rather, it is so well loved because it is a wonderful, consistent, high quality glass of bubbly that is perfect for celebrating any occasion.
And then, there is this Champagne. A beautiful lovely Vintage Brut, from an excellent vintage for Champagne!
For those who many not know, the use of the term “vintage” connotes that all of the fruit used in this wine is from a single year - in this case, 2012. This is a special thing when it comes to Champagne because most commercially available Champagne is actually a blend of several years (not to be confused with the fact that almost all Champagne is also a blend of multiple vineyards!).
And 2012 - well, this has been hailed to be one of the best vintages in decades when it comes to Champagne. Known for having generated low yields but high quality fruit, this is a vintage worth collecting. And this particular Champagne is no exception!
My Tasting Notes
The 2012 Piper-Heidsieck Brut Champagne is composed from 48% Chardonnay and 52% Pinot Noir. A stunning deep golden colour in the glass immediately signals that this Champagne is special. Aromas of almonds, smoke and citrus fruits beckon you from the glass. And on the palate is where this Champagne really shines! Rich, complex and layered, the palate delivers bruised orchard fruit, lemon, almond and walnut, tea and toast and butter biscuit notes. The bead is persistent and the finish is long and incredibly satisfying.
Undoubtedly an amazing Champagne. I highly, highly recommend it!
Wine it up a notch by pairing this wine with a special occasion when you want that extra special something. It’s a beautiful aperitif wine, but would also be incredible with seared tuna, tartar or sushi.
Cheers, Friends!
