6 WINES TO ENJOY WITH DAD ON FATHER’S DAY…AND BEYOND!

6 Wines for Father's Day Blog Graphic.png

Are you struggling to find the perfect gift for the special Dad(s) in your life? Or maybe you just don’t know what to pair with the meal that you’ve planned for Father’s Day this year?

I get it. I find shopping for my husband (on behalf of my kids) for a Father’s Day gift, or planning a great meal to thrill him with, to be an especially difficult undertaking.

It might be because he’s tough to shop for and always insists that he doesn’t need or want a gift. Or maybe it’s because all of the usual suspects when it comes to Father’s Day gifts - i.e. socks, ties, shoes, scotch and BBQ accessories - just don’t feel original or inspiring. And making a meal…..well, he’s better at that than I am so making him dinner is always challenging for me.

So, what’s my answer? Wine, of course! :)

Wine makes a lovely and memorable gift that has a story and sentimental value - for example, why you purchased a particular wine for a particular person, or the story of where the wine comes from and/or who makes it. And of course, the right wine is sure to elevate any meal on Father’s Day, whether it is homemade, made from scratch or takeout from Dad’s favourite restaurant!

To help you find the perfect wine for Father’s Day (and beyond), I’ve put together a diverse list of 6 wine recommendations across a range of price points and styles. These wines are delicious crowd-pleasers that are readily available right now. I’m certain there is something in this list for everyone, from wine newbie to serious wine enthusiast!

Happy reading!

6 WINES THAT ARE PERFECT FOR ENJOYING WITH THE DAD(S) IN YOUR LIFE!

Brimoncourt Extra Brut Champagne $78.95 Product #18129

Champagne is always perfect to celebrate with, isn’t it? So, that makes it perfect to celebrate Dad and all that he does for you, in my view. And why not go off the beaten track a bit with this beauty?

Made by a Champagne house that definitely exudes a sense of cool and relaxed modernity, this Champagne is made with fruit sourced from Grand Cru (i.e. the best of the best) vineyards in the Champagne region.

Expect this wine to be toasty, complex and textured. It’s the perfect accompaniment to any celebration!

2019 Kistler Les Noisetiers Chardonnay $96.95 Product #251223

Now, this is a wine for a serious wine aficionado. If this is the Dad that you have in mind, then this is the wine for him!

Hailing from the Sonoma Coast appellation within Sonoma County in California, this is a cool-climate Chardonnay by a family that is famous for making elegant and sophisticated wines in the same style as those from Burgundy.

This is a small lot wine that should be aged, rather than drunk right away. Gift this to Him now and have him put it away to age. It’s something you can enjoy again with your Dad in a few years time!

2018 Faust Cabernet Sauvignon $59.95 Product #238261

This wine represents great balance between the heady and beautiful joy that comes from Napa cabernet fruit and price - it is a very affordable option for this style of wine. If your Dad likes a juicy, rich, full bodied red wine, then this will be sure to please. Pair with steak, or anything off the grill. This wine can also be aged for 5+ years if that’s what the Dad in your life prefers to do!

2019 Jean Pabiot et Fils Domaine des Fines Caillottes Pouilly-Fume $30.95 Product #695908

If you’re planning to hang out in the backyard or on a patio with your Dad for Father’s Day, this is definitely the wine for you. Hailing from the Loire Valley, this wine, made from Sauvignon Blanc, has fantastic minerality and fruit notes which will perfectly complement the sun on a nice hot day. This bottle is also stunning to look at, which never hurts! :)

Enjoy this wine with smoked fish and/or goat cheese appetizers or pair it with white fish and vegetables, or even sushi, for dinner.

2018 E. Guigal Crozes-Hermitage $39.95 Product #704908

2018 E. Guigal Crozes-Hermitage.jpeg

E. Guigal is an amazing producer from the Rhone Valley in France and Crozes-Hermitage is a wonderful appellation for affordable wines from this region.

This is a great wine to enjoy with rich, hearty meals and is a great option as a gift for someone who likes to store their wines and drink them aged.

If you do choose to enjoy this with Dad on Father’s Day (rather than gift it to him to enjoy years down the road), pair it with steak or grilled beef sausages and be sure to decant the wine for at least one hour.

2017 Torres Salmos $39.95 Product #450734

I absolutely love this wine. It is rich and full-bodied, with berry and chocolate notes. Made by a fabulous producer from Spain, this wine is sure to delight everyone around the table and pair beautifully with good food and family.

A fantastic value play, in my humble view!

Pair this wine with anything off the grill - especially if you’re the one doing all the grilling and Dad is kicking back and enjoying the fruits of your labour! :)

And there you have it - my top picks for wine gifts for Father’s Day….and beyond! I am sure there is something in this list for every Dad in your life! Please be sure to let me know if you decide to gift or enjoy one of these wines this year…and of course, what the recipient of your generosity thought of the wine!

Sante! :)
