7 WHITE WINES TO KICK OFF SPRING!

7 White Wines to Welcome Spring Pinterest Graphic.png

Hi Everyone,

The weather in my neck of the woods is finally starting to show signs of warming up….Spring is definitely in the air! Fresh buds are starting to show, the sun is shining more and the temperatures are starting to creep up higher and higher. Hooray! It’s about time!

With Easter around the corner and Spring in the air, this week’s selections are all oriented towards the dawn of this new season.

At this time of the year, I really start craving white wines again. This is not to say that red wine can’t be enjoyed in the Spring and that I don’t drink it…..BUT I do start to drink more white wines for sure as soon as the end of March rolls around.

So, with this personal preference in mind, I’ve pulled together a list of 7 wines that I think are just perfect to kick off the start of Spring. I’d love to be sipping any of these wines in the days ahead….and think you would too! Read on to learn more :)

If you’ve got bubbles on the mind (or the menu) and you don’t want to spend a fortune, try this lovely sparkling wine from Alsace, France. Made in the same way that Champagne is, this is an easy-going style for less than half the price of the average Champagne. This is a light and elegant sipper that’s sure to please!

Enjoy this sparkling wine as an aperitif, with a goat cheese salad, or with veggie rice paper wraps.

2020 Zuccardi Series A Torrontes $16.95 Product #389262

2020 Zuccardi Series A Torrontes.jpeg

By now, if you read this blog on an even somewhat regular basis, you'll know that Zuccardi is a winemaker that I think very highly of. Torrontes also happens to be one of my favourite varietals. Grown more or less exclusively in Argentina, this is an incredible fresh and aromatic grape that delivers high and evocative impact for an incredibly low price.

Made from fruit that is grown high in the sky, in vineyards that are the highest in the world, this dry wine will be redolent with white flowers, honey, pear and passion fruit notes. This is absolutely a wine you don’t want to miss!

2019 Chateau La Grave D’Arzac $15.95 Product #206714

2019 Chateau La Grave D'Arzac Blanc.jpeg

Dry white Bordeaux wines are certainly less common in our market than red Bordeaux and therefore kind of a big deal, in my wine world anyways. This particular example is from the Graves appellation and is a blend of Semillon-Sauvignon Blanc, with Semillon leading the way.

This wine is bone dry, light and vibrant, with notes of green melon, citrus and green herbs. It would be beautiful on its own, and would also be a wonderful match for a green salad or steamed fish.

2018 Alain Geoffroy Beauroy Chablis Premier Cru $40.95 Product #733501

2018 Alain Geoffroy Beauroy Premier Cru Chablis.jpeg

This beautiful wine was my Wine of the Week pick last week and for good reason. From a family owned estate in the Beauroy area of Chablis, this Premier Cru is definitely a cut above regular generic Chablis, which can often be hit or miss.

This wine is elegant and ethereal, with loads of floral and lemon notes and a lithe minerality. It is the perfect accompaniment for fish or a three bean salad. It can also easily be enjoyed on its own.

Drink now, or cellar and enjoy in a few years time.

2019 Donatien Bahuaud Les Grands Mortiers Vouvray $22.95 Product #140889

2019 Donatien Bahuaud Les Grands Mortiers Vouvray.jpeg

Vouvray is a wonderful expression of Chenin Blanc that comes from a very specific appellation in the Loire Valley. This particular example is “off-dry” meaning it is sweet - not in a sickly, dessert kind of way, but rather in a way that is quite pleasant and inviting. Especially as the weather improves, but before it is really hot, off-dry wines can really hit the spot.

Enjoy this wine with scallops, turkey or asian dishes.

And there you have it - my wine picks this week, all perfect for welcoming the start of Spring! I hope you enjoy this selection and find something herein that appeals to you. Be sure to let me know what you think if you buy any of these wines - I always love to hear from my wine-loving tribe! :)

Cheers!
